With the increasing importance of China overtaking the US as a global superpower, more and more companies are realizing the importance of understanding how to conduct business with and in China. In order for international brands and businesses to succeed in China, it is essential to have an active presence on Chinese social media platforms, and understand how they can add value to your business.

Social media plays a far more important role in the daily life of the Chinese than it does in the West, and the way its social media platforms works is also very different. In China, there are over 770 million Internet users, with over 90% of them owning a social media account. A huge percentage of this population reports that social media has had an influence on their purchase decisions, and that it is based on recommendations that they find and read on social media platforms.

Speaker Profile

Dr Jiyao Xun is is Associate MBA Director (Asia) & BSc (Singapore) Programme Director at Alliance Manchester Business School, and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).

Jiyao manages various business school programmes across Asia (academic, partnership, teaching support, China study tour and student recruitment). He is a native Chinese speaker (Shanghai citizen) with UK education and work background, having worked for Tesco PLC’s venture into China before joining academia, where he taught at various academic institutions including University of Nottingham Executive training in UK, Nottingham Trent, Liverpool University’s China campus in Suzhou, UTS Australia’s China campus in Shanghai, and the MBA center at Shanghai University.

His academic credentials include an MSc in Management Research from Oxford University, and a fully-funded PhD in Business & Management (Marketing) from Nottingham University UK. He holds an educator’s certification in standard mandarin teaching in Chinese HEIs.
